Being a teacher is not easy without an essential underpinning, for that reason Faculty of Cultural Studies, Universitas Brawijaya, has Microteaching Class to make the students ready to be good teachers.
Before the teaching practice in school, students’ knowledge and mental are required to be prepared. A teacher must be able to contribute a good education, which is easy to comprehend by their students. A teacher has to be competent in giving the explanation in the teaching and learning process so that the students are able to catch the material. Students have to master skills for the preparation, execution, evaluation as parts of the teaching and learning activities.
For a better preparation in developing the characters of prospective teachers, the microteaching activity is done repeatedly so that the students will gain sufficient science and mental readiness. Without a good preparation, the students will find difficulties throughout their teaching practice in the real classes, so in this microteaching class in FCS-UB, a student will play a role as a teacher and the others will be the students, while the lecturer will observe from the operator room. Therefore, the situation in the microteaching room is similar to the condition in a real class.
By the microteaching learning, the students are expected to (1) get a real learning experience, (2) develop their teaching skills, (3) cope with the condition of the class, (4) analyze their insufficiency through the recorded video so that they can sharpen their skills periodically.
