On Friday (08/03/2018), the closing ceremony of Community Service in the Kampung Batik of Ngabab Village Malang was held. The activity was closed by Prof. Dr. Agus Suman, SE., DEA, the Dean of Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB). The closing ceremony of Community Service itself was marked by the handover of the MoU guided by FCS UB from the Dean of FCS UB to the Vice Head of the Village.

The Community Service project in Ngabab Village has two projects. The first project is the development of Kampung Batik in Ngabab Village. This village has a vision to be an educational tourism village, and batik is one of attractiveness. The first movement of citizens and students is to make batik as a specialty of Ngabab, which is currently in the form of written batik. In the future, it will be developed as a stamped batik, which later will be developed as a uniform the students of elementary school, junior high school, and senior high school in Ngabab village itself. Ngabab village has also Kampung Batik which is the houses that are painted in batik motif to lift the value of art without losing the Indonesian culture.

“The community responds very well, they help the students in painting the houses,” said Syariful Muttaqin M.A, who participated in the closing ceremony of the Community Service.

The second project is the development of Taman Baca in three hamlets; there are Prajan, Torongrejo and Lambungrejo with the aim to improve the education of the Ngabab society.

The Community Service students of the FCS UB are from the students of 7th semester of Anthropology, English Literature, Japanese Literature, French Langue and Literature, English Education, Japanese Education and Fine Arts Study Program FCS UB. “So far, everything is good. Hopefully what we’ve worked together can be useful in the future,” said Syariful Muttaqin M.A. (Shara/DT/MSH/PSIK FIB)
