Saturday (13/10/2018) was a good day for six students of Japanese Literature Study Program, and three students of Japanese Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Studies Universitas Brawijaya (FCS UB), because those nine students were the recipients of scholarships provided by East Java Japan Club (EJJC) or organizations of Japanese citizens in East Java.

Those six outstanding students of Japanese Literature Study Program FCS UB who received this scholarship were Chandra Aditya, Diah Ayu Palupi, Alya Kartika, Amelia Inca Choirun Nisa, Aditya Wahyu, and Lovely Sabrina. While three students from Japanese Language Education Study Program FCS UB were Benaldo Casadena Mamesah, Pefit Nurindah, and Reyna Royani.

The handover of the 25th EJJC grant took place at Surabaya Japanese School (SJS) and was attended by the scholarship recipients, families of students, lecturers, EJJC committee, Japanese Consulate General, and Surabaya Japanese School Principals. This scholarship is routinely given every year since 1994 to Japanese language learning students.

In addition to Japanese Literature Study Program students and Japanese Language Education Study Program of FCS UB, there were also other students who received this scholarship, including students from Japanese Literature at Airlangga University, Japanese Literature Universitas Dr. Soetomo, Japanese Literature at the Universitas 17 Agustus 1945, and Japanese Language Education of Surabaya State University, with a total of 20 scholarship recipients.

The grant awarding ceremony was held at the same time with bon odori celebrations (Japanese tradition to celebrate the arrival of ancestral spirits which are usually held during the summer of August), as well as to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Japan-Indonesia diplomatic relations.

The Head of East Java Japan Club, Hideya Sato, hopes that this scholarship can help students to achieve their goals according to their respective abilities, and encourage them to continue learning Japanese. (PS.Sjep/DT/MSH/PSIK FIB)
