A Guest Lecture on Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis as A Contribution for the Future of Indonesia
On Monday (01/14/2019) Master of Linguistics Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) held a guest lecture delivered by an expert in the field of Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM): Prof. Dr. I Dewa Putu Wijana, S.U., M.A. who is the Head of Linguistics Study Program, FCS UGM who has produced hundreds of books and scientific articles in the field of Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis.
This activity would not only benefit the Master of Linguistics Study Program FCS UB, but also the entire academic community of FCS UB, especially those who had an interest in researching in the field of linguistics. With the presence of this guest lecture, it was expected that the academic community of FCS UB could produce pragmatics and discourse analysis researches in their respective fields which could contribute for the future of Indonesia.
In addition, Master of Linguistics Study Program FCS UB had implemented KBK-KKNI since 2014. The preparation of the competency framework refered to the vision and mission of the Master of Linguistics Study Program. More than that, various changes and additions to courses compared to the old curriculum were also carried out in order to respond to current demands, so a curriculum review was needed. Therefore, the Master of Linguistics Study Program required input from the Head of Linguistics Study Program FCS UGM, Dr. Putu Wijana, S.U., M.A.
This guest lecture aimed to (1) provide knowledge/enrichment of subjects regarding pragmatics and discourse analysis studies to students and lecturers of the Master of Linguistics Study Program in particular as well as FCS UB students and lecturers in general, (2) develop academic research capacity in the field of pragmatics and discourse analysis; and (3) obtain input regarding the Master of Linguistics Study Program’s curriculum.
This guest lecture was held at 9 a.m. in the Auditorium of Building A FCS UB with a series of events including the opening, guest lecture and continued with the curriculum workshop. The guest lecture was attended by students and lecturers of the Master of Linguistics Study Program and the representatives of Departments and Study Programs of FCS UB. (PS.ILing/DT/MSH/PSIK FIB)
