‘Ayo Dolanan’: Raising the Existence of Traditional Games through Exhibitions

Students of Fine Arts Study Program FCS UB with the Children of TK Putera Zaman

Students of Fine Arts Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) batch 2016 held a Mini Exhibition entitled “Ayo Dolanan” in collaboration with TK Putera Zaman in Malang. The choice of the word ‘dolanan’ which is currently rare for children is intended as an invitation to play physically and interact with peers, doing fun activities with traditional toys.

In response to the phenomenon of children in the millennial era, it is hoped that “Ayo Dolanan” exhibition can revive the existence of traditional games, and educate the importance of traditional games in child development.

The exhibition was held at the Dewan Kesenian Malang (DKM) Building on Jl. Majapahit No.3 Malang. There were approximately 25 hand-made puppets from the children of TK Putera Zaman, and also some installation works in the form of traditional games such as slingshots, kites, marbles, dakons, and so on.

The packaging of events and exhibitions was made to adjust the psychology of children which tended to be more saturated and unfocused. So that entertainment in the form of Children’s Theater, Children’s Tales, Joint Acoustics, and Performance Art were pinned. In addition to the joint exhibition, there were also theater puppet and paper clay workshops which were attended by several kindergartens in Malang, students, and the general public.
