Danneta Yasmina

Danneta Yasmina Rahandani, a student of the 2019 Study Programme of English Literature (SPEL), Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) becomes a representative in 2022 Harvard National Model United Nation (HNMUN). Danneta is an active member of the Student Activity Unit (UKM) of Model United Nation Club at UB. She is active in various activities in UKM by participating in local and international conferences, one of which is the 2022 HNMUN.

HNMUN is a simulation conference of the United Nations (UN) session which is attended by delegates from universities around the world. The delegates presented solutions to various international problems based on the views of the country of origin allocated to each participant. Delegation can be done in single/double. HNMUN is held annually, and in 2022 it was held in Boston, the United States on February 10-13, 2022.

Danneta and her four friends from UKM who represent UB have been preparing to take part in HNMUN since July 2021 for seven months. In HNMUN 2022, the UB delegation team represents the Republic of Serbia.

In addition to participating in HNMUN in America, she also had the opportunity to visit the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in New York. During her visit, she also had the opportunity to be one of the speakers on the 40th episode of the Indonesian Consulate General’s podcast together with Dinda Jhaneta, a student of Law UB. In her podcast, she told me how to prepare for the 2022 HNMUN. Danneta also mentioned her reasons for joining the HNMUN.

“I have a background in English which I got from my study programme, SPEL. But I feel less challenged if I can only speak English without any new experience, so I join the UKM Model United Nation Club, where the UKM discusses world issues that are closely related to International Relations using basic English,” she said.

In HNMUN 2022, Danneta becomes a double delegate in pairs with Abygail Zhofiana, a student of International Relations UB. Unfortunately, when she was in America, she was affected by COVID-19 and could not attend the D-day of the event. So, Danneta was represented by her delegation. Even though she was exposed to COVID-19, Danneta continued to carry out the process before the conference, such as working on a position paper well. Then the 2022 HNMUN itself still provides a certificate knowing that Danneta is registered as one of the delegates or participants.

Danneta revealed that she was very happy and grateful to have the opportunity to be one of the HNMUN delegates.

“The whole process from preparation, journey, to completion is a memorable experience. Even though there are a lot of unexpected things, along the way they get a lot of things, starting from learning to be brave and independent, feeling teamwork, and getting to know how to cope and deal with various situations,” she explained.

“In the process, we must dare to try, even though these things are uncomfortable. We have to try first so we know it’s comfortable or not. We should not compare ourselves with others, because everyone has their way and there are many ways to be successful. Networking, having the courage to interact, making new friends is also important things to do during the process,” she said. [nw/dts/msh/PR FCS]
