Lecturers from the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) at Universitas Brawijaya (UB) attended a Research Writing Workshop in the Meeting Room of FCS Building B on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Prof. Umesh Sharma from Monash University, Australia, was the speaker at this event. This activity was organized by the Department of Language Education FCS running on Visiting Professor Grant through the EQUITY Program by the UB World Class University Team.
At around 9:00 AM, Hamamah, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ph.D., the Dean of FCS UB, arrived. The event began with the MC’s official welcome to Prof. Umesh Sharma, followed by a speech from the Dean of FCS UB.
In her speech, Hamamah expressed her hope that this activity would mark the beginning of a fruitful collaboration with Monash University.
“Hopefully, this can be a good collaboration for the future,” she said.
Similarly, Prof. Umesh also hoped that this activity would provide many benefits through the discussions that would take place.
Before starting the main activity, the MC invited the Dean of FCS UB and Prof. Umesh to conduct a souvenir handover and documentation session, involving all participants in the room.
The main activities, which included discussions and research writing workshops, then commenced. The session began with an engaging discussion, as evidenced by the many questions directed at Prof. Umesh. During this session, Prof. Umesh also invited all participants to write a reflection related to their research.
The workshop focused on several key aspects of research, including identifying problems in a study, formulating questions necessary for the sustainability of a study, and defining the research’s purpose.
Towards the end of the workshop, Prof. Umesh concluded his presentation with a motivational statement related to research writing. “We have been consumers of research for far too long. It’s time we became producers of new knowledge. Use our history to guide our investigative journey,” he explained. [trans.adhyaksa/ed.al/vidya/PR FCS]
