Doctoral Service Team UB Observes Tourism Potential Locations

The Doctoral Service (DM) team of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) assists in structuring and managing tourism potential in Ranuyoso Village, Lumajang Regency. Ranuyoso Village was chosen because it was deemed to have sufficient tourism potential to be developed. Therefore, the team chaired by Hamamah, M.Pd. Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) UB begins to prepare structured, measurable, integrated, and sustainable programs to develop the tourism potential in the village.

This DM team started the programme in April 2022 and will work on constructing it until November 2022. It consists of Dr. Ir. Joni Kusnadi, M.Sc., from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology; Dr. eng. Tri Budi Prayogo, ST., MT., from Faculty of Engineering; M. Andhy Nurmansyah, S.S., M.Hum., and Fredy Nugroho S., M.Hum., from FCS.

The initial activity carried out by the UB’s Doctoral Service team is to identify and map any potential for developing tourism aspects that can be managed further. The team conducts a deeper analysis of this potential, makes a master plan, particularly for the tourism site, and assists in community empowerment.

In general, the team intends to carry out sustainable arrangements and ensure the involvement of various community groups, so that they can contribute to the development of Ranuyoso Village as a tourist destination. With more awareness among the people of Ranuyoso, it is hoped that the acceleration of the designed programs will be achieved.

With a clear and organized design provided in stages, at least by the end of 2024, tourist sites will be operational for the public. Meanwhile, the process of improvement of the infrastructure of the site will be continued as planned within the grand design.

Especially in 2022, the expected outputs of the DM Program with the help of seven KKN-DM students are the complete and comprehensive grand design of the tourism project in Ranuyoso Village including the master plan of the tourism site, the programs of community empowerment such as providing training for processing fruits into a more valuable commodity, and some recommendation related to the improvement of traditional and local arts.

Those outputs are meant to create a tourism project development based on the concept of Community-based Tourism. The collaboration of the stakeholders, including UB, is hoped to accelerate the existence of the “Sumber Randu Pinus” tourist site which will provide benefits, socially, culturally, and economically as well.
