Lecturers of the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) held a training for the Assistance Program for the Inclusive Education Implementation in collaboration with the Education Office of the Kediri on Saturday (10/16/2021). The training which was attended by 50 participants was carried out offline at the Education Office Hall Kediri.

This was due to the request of the Head of the Education Office Kediri, Drs. Siswanto M.Pd. to help organize inclusive training to broaden the knowledge of elementary and junior high school teachers in Kediri, and UB is one of the parties who are interested and willing to cooperate in organizing the inclusion training.

“The background for the training is that the teachers for students with special needs have minimal attention from various parties,” explained Siswanto.

Alies Poetri Lintangsari, M.Li., a Lecturer of FCS UB as the chief executive of the program, explained that the training took place in a combination so that the participants could analyze students with disabilities in an inclusive context. This training emphasizes practice starting from a simulation of sharing experiences.

“Teacher becomes a blind student in the simulation session, and accesses the learning materials,” she added.

There were three materials delivered by FCS UB lecturers, namely Introduction to Universal Learning Design and Differentiated Instruction which was delivered by Alies Poetri Lintangsari, Planning for Inclusive Learning by Dr. Ive Emaliana, and Making Technology-Based Learning Media delivered by Putri Kumala Dewi, M.Pd.

“In realizing inclusive education, there are many methods, including the differentiation method and the Universal Design Learning (UDL) method. The two methods are identical to inclusive education,” she said.

Alies also said that the activity went smoothly and there were no significant obstacles, the teachers who took part in the activity were very enthusiastic, and participated well.

“With the establishment of a cooperation agreement between FCS UB and the Education Office of the Kediri, we hoped that there will be the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education FCS UB in Kediri,” she concluded. [DTS/MSH/PR FCS]
