Being creative for some people doesn’t have to think hard. Even college assignments can be material to be developed in accordance with imagination and include it in an international competition. This was also done by students of the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB). They received the Gold Medal at the International Student Affairs Invention, Innovation and Design Competition (I-SAIID) 2019 which took place at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Cawangan Kedah, Malaysia on March 26-27th, 2019.
Ahmad Faatihul (English Language Education Program 2015) with Nahdliyatul (Study Program of English 2016), and Muhammad Sahal (Vocational Program) joined the I-SAIID 2019 with their project entitled “Educard: The Solution to Learn Grammar Easily”. Educard is actually the result of developing teaching media from Instructional Media course that Fatih joined with his group mates. The procedure of using Educard is to arrange cards until they become one sentence based on tenses. “The way to play this is similar to playing poker,” Fatih explained. Getting permission from his group mates, Fatih then developed and included it in I-SAIID 2019. In judging session, Educard received a lot of advices from the judges for further development.
Getting a gold medal, Fatih expressed his gratitude. “Thank God, I am very proud and happy. I still don’t believe that Educard could get the Gold Medal,” he said.
Furthermore, Fatih revealed the next step with Educard. One of them, after doing some development, is taking it in an international competition. “And if we have met the standard of eligibility as a learning medium, we will commercialize it to educational institutions or anyone who wants to use it,” Fatih said.
I-SAIID is an international competition that accommodates local and international innovators to meet, exhibit and promote new inventions or products that benefit students’ welfare and development. (PS.PBIng/DT/PSIK FIB)
