Recently, Doctoral Community Service Team of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) visited Boti Tribe in East Nusa Tenggara. This team consisted of Dr. Anang Listriyanto from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology and Syariful Muttaqin, M.A from the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) UB. This team also involved four students, three of them were from FCS and one was from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology carrying out Thematic Internship Program in East Nusa Tenggara. This internship program aimed at raising Boti Tribe as people who are able to maintain indigenous culture in their survival amid the strong flow of modernization.
The involvement of the students was aimed at training them to be able to identify problems in the community and to find out practical and smart solutions to improve the welfare of citizens.
The Regent of South Central Timor, East Nusa Tenggara, welcomed the team. He believed that they can cooperate in the framework of developing Local Potential-based Agro-Industry and Tourism. The activities would also involve the Department of Industry and Trade, the Tourism Department, and the Department of Education and Culture to support the local Food Industry and Tourism in order to improve the welfare of East Nusa Tenggara.
