Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), in collaboration with TEFLIN East Java Chapter, invited English teachers across Malang to participate in a dynamic training session titled AI and Technology in EFL Classes on Wednesday (12/11/2024) at the Hall Building B FCS UB.
The event marked a continuation of the earlier training on Thursday (11/14/2024), which introduced the fundamentals of AI for English Teachers. This second session expanded on the previous themes, equipping educators with advanced tools and techniques to enrich their teaching practices.
The training funded by UB as part of research activities led by Prof. Zuliati Rohmah covered a range of topics designed to deepen teachers’ understanding of AI’s role in education. Participants revisited key concepts from the first session and explored new areas, such as utilizing AI-powered applications in EFL classrooms, implementing AI to score and evaluate students, and developing actionable plans for integrating AI into their lesson designs.
“The program provided practical insights into how AI can transform traditional classrooms into interactive and adaptive learning environments,” Prof. Zuliati stated.
A standout feature of the session was the hands-on approach to lesson planning using AI tools. Teachers were introduced to innovative ways to teach narrative texts, blending multimedia resources, collaborative mind mapping, and creative storytelling activities. These practices demonstrated how AI can simplify teaching workflows while enhancing student engagement and comprehension.
The response from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their enthusiasm for the practical applications of AI in the classroom.
“This training has given me new ideas to make lessons more engaging and effective. AI is an exciting tool that can help us meet the needs of modern students,” one of the participants shared.
The enthusiasm highlighted the growing recognition among educators of AI’s potential to revolutionize language teaching.
“FCS UB remains committed to supporting teachers in adapting to technological advancements in education. This training series reflects their dedication to fostering innovation and empowering educators with the skills needed to create dynamic and impactful learning experiences,” Prof. Zuliati uttered.
