The student of the Study Program of Japanese Literature, Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) batch 2017, Alandra Anas Athallah, made achievement at the university level in East Java Province. Alandra won 3rd place in the “Mandarin Talent Show to commemorate 70 years of China-Indonesia Diplomatic Relations (中 印尼 载 70 载)” held by the Mandarin Language Center, Malang State University (印 尼玛 琅 国立 大学 孔子 学院).
The competition was carried out online via Instagram and the winner announcement was on Friday (16/10/2020).
“The last video collection was on September 25 and extended by the committee until October 3,” he said.
For the preparation, Alandra hired a tutor for three meetings because he did not master the basics of Chinese traditional dance and this was his first time participating in a Chinese traditional dance competition. Initially, he was confused because Chinese traditional dance is mostly for female, but there is a male dance equipped with a hand-held fan “纸扇 书生”.
The video duration was limited to a maximum of three minutes, so Alandra had to cut it from the seven-minute original video. To feel the nuances of the competition and Chinese atmosphere, Alandra took the recording location in front of the UM Mandarin Language Center and wore the dance costume he had worn at the UGANOL (Uri Gachi Nolja) 2018 event.
All the recording, video editing, and submitting processes were carried out in one day (10/2/2020). Alandra managed to beat the other participants and brought third place to make FCS and UB proud. [DSM/ASR/DTS/MSH/PR FCS]
