Vice Deans of FCS UB with Presenters and Participants
The Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) held a workshop that thoroughly discussed the art of making documentary films for two days, Tuesday to Wednesday (9/5-6/2023). This event, conducted in celebration of FCS UB’s 14th Anniversary, was a collaboration between FCS UB and PT. World Innovative Telecommunication OPPO and Medcom.id and was attended by approximately 90 participants.
The event took place in the Movie Room of FCS UB, Building A, located on the 7th floor. It featured two speakers: Hadi Winarto, the Executive Manager of Medcom.id MetroTV on Tuesday (9/5/2023), and Bayu Yamu, the Manager Trainee OPPO Malang, on Wednesday (9/6/2023). The objective of this workshop was to prepare participants for an upcoming documentary film-making competition, organized by FCS UB and is open to the public. The competition revolves around an intriguing theme: “Majestic Arjuna Chronicles: Exploring Mount Arjuna Through Short Documentaries.”
Vice Dean of General Affairs, Finance, and Resources FCS UB, Nanang Endrayanto, M.Sc., hoped that the presentation delivered by the speakers would motivate both participants and students to contribute to the development of tourism in North Malang, particularly in the Mount Arjuna region.
Hadi Winarto Explains Various Aspects in Making Documentary Videos
During this event, the first speaker, Hadi discussed various crucial aspects of documentary videos production, including visual elements, shooting techniques, image composition, and aerial photography techniques using drones. Participants were encouraged to analyze these elements by examining examples from music videos, namely Damai, sung by 5 Wanita, and Badai Pasti Berlalu, sung by Bunga Citra Lestari.
Moreover, Hadi also explained the process of creating a visual design for photographers and filmmakers before shooting. He also shared insights regarding shooting techniques, such as close-up shots, medium shots, long shots, and the utilization of drones in filmmaking.
In addition, Hadi provided material on determining critical aspects of documentary film production, including topics, plots, characters, conflicts, and visual approaches.
The enthusiastic and positive response from the participants was evident as they actively participate in asking questions about documentary filmmaking and engaging in various interesting discussions about film. This event offered valuable insights to the participants, empowering them to make meaningful contributions to the Indonesian film industry.
Bayu Yamu Presents the Art of Taking Pictures Using Mobile Photography Techniques
On the second day, Bayu Yamu presented interesting topics related to the art of photography using mobile photography techniques. Bayu offered insights into capturing images using the latest OPPO cellphone model, specifically the OPPO Reno10 5G Series. This event is expected to provide knowledge and inspiration to participants for enhancing their photography techniques to produce high-quality work.
The Vice Dean of Student Affairs, Alumni, and Student Entrepreneurship, Dr. Aji Setyanto, S.S., M.LITT., expressed his hope that this workshop will help participants to create useful photography works.
“Through this talk show, we hope participants can learn how to create impactful work with their own hands,” he remarked.
In his presentation, Bayu emphasized that photography techniques are not difficult and that each individual’s photography style has their own uniqueness. He also provided valuable tips on how to capture better photos using a cellphone camera.
Discussion and Question and Answer Session
Furthermore, Bayu explained that the mobile photography techniques have many benefits in everyday life, such as for creating social media content, enhancing profile pictures, designing wallpapers, printing on clothing, etc. This underscores the relevance of using the OPPO Reno10 5G Series for capturing important moments.
This workshop also engaged participants in a photography competition using the OPPO Reno10 5G Series to take pictures of various objects found within FCS UB. Participants who managed to capture outstanding shots have the opportunity to win enticing prizes. Through this event, it is hoped that participants will become more proficient in photography and be ready for the Mount Arjuna Documentary Film Competition, which is currently open for public registration on 6th September to 20th November 2023 with OPPO Reno10 5G Series as the Grand Prize.
