The Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) celebrated a historic moment with the launching of supporting facilities at the Center of Excellence on Saturday (9/23/2023). The event was attended by UB Rector, Prof. Widodo, S.Si, M.Si, Ph.D.Med.Sc., Vice-Rectors, University Secretary, Senates, lecturers, and the students. Its purpose was to provide an in-depth understanding of the latest AI support facilities, specifically smart classrooms and interactive halls, in which was the initial steps towards improving the quality of education at FCS UB.
The visit of the UB Rector and his staff started with a tour to the Microteaching rooms. Here, a foreign lecturer from the United States, Grady Ryan Mitchell, and several international students from the Darmasiswa RI Programme, including Alia Mostafa Ahmed Mohamed Ali from Egypt, Lee Hyeonseo from South Korea, Zakaria Redouane from the United Kingdom, as well as Fu Wei, Hong Kaili, Li Landi, and Liu Qi from China, and a student of the BIPA Cooperation Programme, Cha Jihyeon from South Korea, provided a detailed explanations about the various activities conducted at FCS UB using this AI support facility. They expressed pride and amazement at how this facility could enhance student active interaction, development and the quality of learning.
The Microteaching rooms at FCS UB received a positive response from the Rector of UB.
“FCS UB’s smart teaching classrooms are excellent and has been integrated with our learning system, Moodle, which is used for Brone and other applications,” he stated.
The event continued to Hall FCS UB, a large meeting room equipped with AI technology. Here, the Dean of FCS UB, Hamamah, Ph.D., explained the importance of AI facilities in FCS UB’s digital-era innovations.
Then, the event continued with the signing of the opening plaque by the Rector and Dean of FCS UB, symbolizing the university’s commitment to support the development of science and technology at FCS UB.
“I believe that the space for the center of excellent digital humanities aligns with UB’s vision. If we want to maintain our competitive edge and not be surpassed by other universities, It is imperative that we must use AI and digital applications to increase the existing humanity values,” said the UB’s Rector.
“I am pleased and appreciate the FCS UB’s positive activities. We will fully support this. Furthermore, numerous collaborations have been established with industries, including the digital sector. In the future, with this exceptional collaboration, we inevitably have to enlarge the active involvement of our researchers and students in developing the world of AI and digital technology in all fields,” he continued.
“To make this cooperation highly effective, we plan to involve more faculties and design a scheme to enhance this kind of activity as well,” he concluded.
