Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) received a visit from representatives of Huayou Indonesia, a nickel mining and processing company that is part of the industrial integration and international operations of Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt, with more than 17,000 employees headquartered in Jakarta.
The visit was held on Thursday (4/10/2025) at 2 p.m. in the 6th-floor Meeting Room of Building A FCS UB and was facilitated by the Research and Community Service Board (BPPM) FCS UB. This visit is part of the plan to sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to be ratified in April 2025.
During the meeting, FCS UB explained the excellent programs owned by the Study Program of Chinese Literature, including two learning schemes, namely Learning at FCS UB, mainly for strengthening Chinese language and culture skills, and the Double Degree Program to China, as has been running through a partnership with the OPPO Indonesia company.
The Dean of FCS UB, Hamamah, Ph.D., expressed the hope that this cooperation can be expanded towards empowering human resources from the company’s operating areas.
“So far, most FCS UB Chinese Literature students come from Java. We hope that Huayou Indonesia can attract prospective students from regions such as Sulawesi and North Maluku to continue their studies at UB and later return to serve their home regions,” said Hamamah.
The proposal is considered positive from the company’s side, although it needs to be discussed further with the local government regarding the financing scheme and legality.
Meanwhile, FCS UB representative Yang Nadia Miranti, S.Hum., M.Pd., also suggested that the cooperation scheme be expanded with the option of companies sending prospective students to study at FCS UB or FCS UB lecturers being sent to the company’s operational areas to provide direct Chinese language and culture training to employees or local communities.
The meeting took place in an open and enthusiastic atmosphere. Both parties agreed to establish a long-term strategic collaboration to increase the capacity of human resources who master Mandarin and have cross-cultural competence, especially in industrial cooperation.
With this visit, FCS UB again showed its commitment to bridging the academic world with the industrial sector and supporting regional development based on strengthening language and cultural education. [dts/PR FCS]
