The Study Programme of Indonesian Language and Literature Education (SPILLE), in collaboration with the Humanities Science Laboratory (LIH) of the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB), held a Poetry Jamboree with the theme “Discussing the Development of Poetry, the Role of Poetry, and Appreciation”.
The event, held on Saturday (11/16/2024), took place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Art Gallery and Hall Room on the 7th floor of FCS UB. It was attended by SPILLE students, the class of 2023, and writers from various circles.
This activity consists of three series of events, graphic poetry exhibitions, in-depth discussions about the development and role of poetry in society, and poetry musicalization.
The discussion session was filled with discussions of students’ poetry books, which were then dissected by Jamilah Wijayanti, M.Pd., guided by moderator Dr. Tengsoe Tjahjono, M.Pd.
“This event aims to increase appreciation of poetry as well as explore a deeper understanding of how poetry develops and has a significant role in our lives,” said Sahiruddin, S.S., M.A., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FCS UB, in his speech.
The graphic poetry exhibition that was also held at this event showed visual works that combined poetry with graphic art. In contrast, the poetry musicalization session featured a collaboration between poetry and music that made participants appreciate the richness of Indonesian literary art even more.
The Poetry Jamboree is expected to be a forum for the academic community to learn more about poetry and provide a space for students and writers to dialogue and collaborate in enriching the world of literature in the country. [trans.acl/ed.dts/PR FCS]
