Japanese Students Love Javanese Traditional Snacks

19 students from Hiroshima University (HU), Japan accompanied by Prof. Kawamoto Naoe and a staff member, Ms. Suenaga Maki, arrived in Malang on Sunday (8/9/2019) and stayed in Malang for two weeks. This visit was a part of the Summer Course Program entitled HU START (Study Tour Abroad for Realization and Transformation) Program which is an Overseas Field Study activity.

They were warmly welcomed by the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) as the organizer of the HU START 2019 Program in the Auditorium of Building A FCS UB on Monday (9/9/2019).

Ikeda Fuga, Captain of the Class was very happy and looked forward to this two-week activity. “I want to get many experiences while studying at HU, one of which is through this HU START Program. This is the first program I join, so this is very important experience to me. I want to always remember this experience,” he said.

“Hiroshima is too humid, I want to live here,” he continued.

Haraguchi Itsuki added, “The environment is so comfortable”.

The other student, Masaki Idogawa also said that Indonesians were very generous and kind. “I’m looking forward to communicate with Indonesian people, eat traditional food, and take a walk at night. I feel so good and comfortable here. I was amazed when I saw squirrels live freely around UB,” he said.

This chatting with these three Japanese students was carried out while enjoying traditional Javanese snacks served by the organizing committee of the HU START Program 2019. When being asked how the taste of the snacks was, which were consisted of lumpur cakes, risoles, fruit cake and vegetable rolls cake, they spontaneously raised both their thumbs and say, “They are very delicious, I love it”.
