The Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) has further strengthened its position in the field of Digital Humanities. It was demonstrated through an online forum held on Friday (11/15/2024) with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), presenting Fadjar Ibnu Thufail, Ph.D., Head of BRIN’s Regional Research Center, as the main speaker.
The event, attended by lecturers from various study programs at FCS UB, was part of implementing the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) between FCS UB and BRIN. In his remarks, Fadjar expressed his appreciation for the strategic steps taken by FCS UB.
“Thank you for the invitation. I am happy to be able to join you this morning, especially because this meeting is a continuation of the cooperation with FCS UB, and we will note it as the implementation of activities that run in the framework of PKS,” he said.
In the primary session, Fadjar explained his research collaboration with Ritsumeikan University entitled “What Borobudur Wants: The Politics of Digital Photogrammetry of a World Heritage Site”.
“Digitalization is one way to make the value of cultural heritage objects plural,” Fadjar explained.
He also emphasized that this approach can be used to investigate the possibility of decolonizing the sociotechnical imagination that often accompanies cultural heritage such as Borobudur.
Fadjar’s presentation was followed by a discussion session with FCS UB lecturers. The discussion was interactive, with various questions from the participants regarding the potential for cross-disciplinary collaboration, technology applications in learning, and integrating Digital Humanities with study programs at FCS UB.
As part of the big mission of developing Digital Humanities, this forum emphasized that FCS UB continues to move forward through collaboration with strategic partners such as BRIN. This forum is a platform to discuss the implementation of digital technology in various fields of study and open up promising new cooperation opportunities. [trans.acl/ed.dts/PR FCS]
