History

Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) has been approved by the Rector of University of Brawijaya by the Decree No: 0279A/SK/2009. This faculty establishment is a response to a recommendation of balancing the Indonesian society development with progression of culture, language, and literature.
Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) was pioneered through the establishment of Language Laboratory in 1973. That Language Laboratory served as a means of English educational facilities to prepare the lecturers of Universitas Brawijaya for getting ready to continue their studies abroad. With the Rector’s Decree No. 026/SK/1986, the Language Laboratory was changed into one-year Diploma study in English. The Language Laboratory was then further developed into UPT Bahasa Inggris in 1993 (Rector’s Decree No. 036 / SK / 1993).
Through the Rector’s Decree No. 188/SK/2006 Language and Literature Program was established. This Program embodied all Language and Literature study programs that had been formed previously. The Language and Literature Program was then turned into Faculty of Cultural Studies in 2009 with the following study programs:
