The process of selection and consideration in the election of the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) for the period 2025-2030 continues to roll under the stages that have been set. Today, Friday (5/2/2025), the Faculty Academic Senate officially submitted two names of Dean Candidates to the Rector of UB.
This submission was made after going through a series of essential processes that began on Monday, April 28, 2025, to deliver the two dean candidates’ vision, mission, and work program before the Faculty Academic Senate.
Previously, three dean candidates participated in the screening process. However, at the consideration stage, candidate number 2, who received the lowest vote on April 17, 2025, declared his resignation. Thus, only two candidates advanced to the final consideration stage at the Faculty Academic Senate level.
The two candidates were given 20 minutes each to present their vision, mission, and work program, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session with Senate members.
The Faculty Academic Senate made an assessment based on the presentation, answers in the discussion, and the candidates’ academic and managerial track record. Although the assessment results gave an idea of the direction of choice, there was no consensus on making the final decision.
Therefore, a closed vote was conducted by 14 Faculty Academic Senate members with the results of the 1st rank Hamamah, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ph.D., who received 10 (ten) votes, and the 2nd rank Sahiruddin, S.S., M.A., Ph.D., received 4 (four) votes.
With these results, the two names were submitted to the UB Rector as Dean Candidates, following the provisions of the Rector’s Regulation.
The submission of the two names of the Dean Candidates was outlined in the Faculty Academic Senate letter attached to the official minutes and carried out precisely on this day, May 2, 2025. Furthermore, the last stage of this process is the determination of the elected dean by the Rector of UB.
This process, which is carried out democratically, transparently, and professionally, shows FCS UB’s commitment to maintaining the quality and integrity of faculty leadership elections. [dts/PR FCS]
