Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS), Universitas Brawijaya (UB) held the Sabda Budaya Award and Cultural Oration to celebrate the 11th Anniversary of FCS UB through the YouTube and Zoom Meeting platform on Tuesday (11/10/2020). FCS UB presents the award to M. Soleh Adi Pramono as the awardee of the Creative Process Incentives.
Soleh Adi Pramono is the founder of the Wiruncana Mangun Dharma Mask and Puppet Art conservatory on August 26, 1989, which has been around for 31 years. Mangun Dharma conservatory is a place to train and develop traditional dances, especially the Malangnese Mask dance. Besides, this conservatory is also a place to make masks and puppets, to train puppeteers and Macapat (Javanese traditional song) singers, to hold seminars and workshops related to Javanese culture. Mangun Dharma conservatory has born the artists to maintain and develop the Javanese traditional culture.
Soleh inherits the competence of Malang Mask art from his parents. He is a famous Traditional Puppeteer. M Soleh’s daily activities are making masks, teaching traditional Malangnese dances from East Java, puppetry, Macapat, and Sinden (Javanese traditional singer).
Soleh had a difficulty in finding students from Malang who wanted to learn and develop Malangnese arts. “The youths from Malang are very difficult to find, even those who want to learn Malang arts can be counted by fingers,” said M. Sholeh’s wife.
Soleh hoped that after he received the award from FCS UB, he can continue to develop and preserve Malang arts and culture. [DAF/DTS/MSH/PR FCS]
