The Head of the Master’s Programme, Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Ika Nurhayani, Ph.D., participated in the 20th Annual Atma Jaya Linguistics Conference (KOLITA) on Tuesday (6/7/2022). KOLITA is an annual conference organized by the Center for Language and Cultural Studies, Universitas Katolik Indonesia Atma Jaya. This conference was held online via the Zoom Meeting platform for three days from 7 June to 9 June 2022.

At this conference, Ika Nurhayani was one of the five invited speakers from local and oversea universities. Aside from the invited speakers, some plenary speakers delivered their material.

Ika Nurhayani presented her material entitled “Revisiting the Language Status of Dayak Desa”. She explained the status of the Dayak Desa language spoken by the Dayak people in Toba District, Sengau Regency, West Borneo, Indonesia.

She studied whether Dayak Desa is a unified language or part of dialects in West Borneo. This study concluded that Dayak Desa is a dialect of the language used in the Inggis Village and Mengkiang Village. This is proven by serving pieces of evidence of identical 88 words of two villages with Dayak Desa language and around 55 words have similarity as well as showing stable voice correspondence with Dayak Desa language.
