The Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) welcomed three students from the Prefectural University of Kumamoto (PUK), Japan. The three students are Satsuki Maeda, Yoshida Akane, and Sasaki Kano. Their arrival at FCS UB was to carry out Field Experience Practices (PPL) in the Study Programme of Japanese Language Education (SPJLE). The activity took place from Tuesday (11/12/2024) to Thursday (11/21/2024).

Their teaching practice was carried out in several classes in the SPJLE, including Chukyu Kaiwa, Chukyu Choukai, and Jokyu Choukai courses. This activity is an implementation of bilateral cooperation between FCS UB and PUK Japan.

In addition to teaching practice, other activities carried out were cultural exchanges with SPJLE students, through the Tabunka Kouryuu event. Tabunka Kouryu is a discussion event between students of the Study Programme of Japanese Literature (SPJL) and SPJLE with natives from Japan, in this case, students from PUK.

The Tabunka Kouryu event was attended by more than 50 FCS UB students. The activity was held on Monday (11/18/2024) at the 7th floor Hall of Building A. The event was organized in a unique and fun way so that students enthusiastically answered various questions and quizzes.

Ulfah Sutiyarti, S.Pd., M.Pd., Secretary of the Department of Language Education FCS UB, hopes that the cooperation between PUK and FCS UB in the future can develop a Student Exchange Program that not only includes teaching practice activities but also provides opportunities for FCS UB students to study at PUK.

“We hope that through this program, students can enrich their academic and cultural experiences and broaden their horizons in the context of Japanese language education,” Ulfah hoped.

“By holding joint training and workshops involving lecturers and students, as a means of sharing the latest knowledge and skills in the field of Japanese language education, this program is expected to improve the quality of teaching and prepare graduates who are more competent in teaching Japanese in Indonesia, especially FCS UB,” she continued.

These expectations, if properly actualized, are expected to bring long-term benefits, not only for students and lecturers but also for bilateral relations between Indonesia and Japan, especially in the field of education [trans.acl/ed.dts/PR FCS].
