Students of the Chinese Literature Programme at the Faculty of Cultural Science (FCS) of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) won awards at the 22nd Chinese Bridge Competition in East Java. The competition was organized by the Chinese Language Education Coordination Board of East Java, Confucius Institute of University of Malang (UM), and the Mandarin Language Education Programme of UM on Sunday, May 7th, 2023. The students are Dinda Ayu Anggraeni (2020) who won the 3rd place, and Anegellen Hamemayu Y. (2020) who won the Best Talent Performance.
This year, the 22nd Chinese Bridge Competition carried the theme “天下一家” or “One World, One Family.” The competition was held as a site for university-level Mandarin language proficiency contests in East Java region. The competition took place offline at the Sasana Budaya Building, at University of Malang (UM).
The Chinese Bridge competition was attended by students from six universities in East Java who have Mandarin Language Programmes, with a total of 25 participants. The Chinese Literature Programme of FCS UB sent four students serving as competition delegates.
The competition, which was started at 09:30 and lasted until 16:20, went smoothly and was very lively. The event was opened with a performance of Gambyong Dance and Chinese Dance by representatives from UM students, followed by a speech from the Director of the Chinese Language Center from China.
For the competition itself, there were two categories being tested: Mandarin language proficiency test in form of 90-second-limited short-speech, followed with an oral test; and 90-second Chinese talent performance. After all the participants showed their best performances, the event continued with various kinds of entertainment performances while waiting for the score calculation and winner announcement.
