Mahasiswa FIB UB Kenalkan Batik dan Budaya Indonesia di Taiwan melalui International Teaching Program (ITP)

The Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) at Universitas Brawijaya (UB) recently concluded its International Teaching Program (ITP) in Taiwan. This program, conducted from May 4th to 19th, 2024, was a collaborative effort between FCS UB and National Sun Yat Sen University (NSYSU) in Taiwan.

A total of 11 students from FCS UB’s English Literature and English Language Education programs participated in this year’s ITP. They were divided into three groups and served as pre-service teachers, introducing English language and Indonesian culture to high school students in Taiwan.

The FCS UB students brought various Indonesian products such as batik, wayang, and traditional Indonesian food. They not only displayed these items but also invited Taiwanese students to engage directly with the products.

In carrying out their teaching duties, the FCS UB students were assisted by several NSYSU students who acted as buddies. These buddies helped and guided them in making lesson plans, adjusting teaching methods to fit the educational culture in Taiwan, and preparing for the classroom teaching and learning process.

Teaching activities were held in several schools in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, including Ling Ya Junior High School, Shoushan Junior High School, Siaogang Senior High School, Yancheng Junior High School, and Chungshan Senior High School.

The ITP program organized by FCS UB and NSYSU offered numerous benefits for the students involved. Participants from both universities enhanced their English teaching skills, gained insights into the culture and education systems of Taiwan and Indonesia, built international networks, increased their self-confidence, and developed interpersonal skills.
