The Faculty of Cultural Studies

History

The Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) was officially established by the Rector of Universitas Brawijaya through Decree No: 0279A/SK/2009. This establishment aimed to balance the development of Indonesian society with advancements in culture, language, and literature.

The origins of FCS trace back to the establishment of the Language Laboratory in 1973. This laboratory provided English educational facilities to prepare Universitas Brawijaya lecturers for further studies abroad. In 1986, under the Rector’s Decree No. 026/SK/1986, the Language Laboratory was transformed into a one-year diploma programme in English. Further development led to the creation of UPT Bahasa Inggris in 1993, as per Rector’s Decree No. 036/SK/1993.

In 2006, the Language and Literature Programme was established through Rector’s Decree No. 188/SK/2006. This programme integrated all previously formed language and literature study programmes. In 2009, the Language and Literature Programme was elevated to the status of the Faculty of Cultural Studies, encompassing the following study programmes:

– Undergraduate Study Programme of English Literature (Dikti Decree No. 1504/D/T/2007)
